SOLD OUT – Design Nation Live, Launceston, Howroyd House, September 6, 7pm

Comedian and self-proclaimed design nerd Tim Ross presents an evening where he examines the fascinating stories of some of our “invisible icons” of Australian design. From the Stackhat to the iconic Dolphin Torch,  Tim uses his trademark wit to ask us to rediscover these ubiquitous, everyday objects of Australian design through previously untold stories, personal anecdotes  and design narratives, revealing how our unique design histories have helped shape our national identity.

Tim’s inventive take on architecture and design has seen him win an AWGIE award for his ABC TV series Streets of Your Town. In 2016 he was invited to speak at the opening of the London Design Museum. In March 2017, Design Nation, the exhibition on which this talk is based, opened at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum. In May 2018, Tim was awarded the National Trust Heritage Award for Advocacy.

Hosted in the modernist Howroyd House, the show runs for 1 hour and 20 mins and includes question and answers, meet and greet with Tim Ross post event.

History of Design Nation:

Design Nation started as an exhibition, originally curated by Tim Ross for MAAS in Sydney. Bringing together outstanding examples of Australian ingenuity and innovation from the MAAS collection and casting a spotlight on Australia’s rich manufacturing history.

Looking at design objects from the mid-1960s to late 1980s, which reflect on a golden age of innovation in Australia, a period in which ‘Australian Made’ contributed to significant economic growth and many of our locally designed products  enjoyed unprecedented international success.
